Millennium Falcon Star Wars James Luceno Books
Though it's written, in part, to bridge the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series, this novel is fun in its own right. The stakes are much less significant than galaxy-changing events, but the story is still gripping and full of adventure. Luceno deftly captures the roguish magic at the heart of the Han/Falcon mythology as he fills in the gaps of the ship's epic history, from the time it leaves the assembly line to the in-universe present. He does this by interspersing the stories of previous owners within a larger frame narrative in which the Solos (and several mysterious newcomers) trace the Falcon's history. A couple of these vignettes drag, but most are great, and they're a nice way to add some variety and structural depth.Like I said, though, this is clearly a bridge novel. Luceno (quite cleverly) gives you a galactic history primer within the book, but the more familiar you are with prior EU/Legends works (even as far back as the Han Solo Adventures) the more you'll get out of this novel. There are also a couple plot threads left open which I can only presume the Fate of the Jedi series resolves. But if you like the Millennium Falcon as a ship and are fine with the fact that this isn't canon, you'll probably enjoy the novel regardless.

Millennium Falcon Star Wars James Luceno Books Reviews
Unfortunately this one focused a lot on a character they introduced in the beginning. It is always interesting to see how a back story is created for characters, ships or scenes that define the Star Wars world. If you haven't read all the books proceeding this in the time line, then you will be exposed to developments with characters you may not want to know before reading the other books. Yes you could read it without having read any Star wars books. They do a good job with the paragraph type recap of past events. You just don't want to spoil it for the other books.
I've been a big fan of Star Wars in general, and Han Solo in particular for most of my life. With what I consider to be a 'relaunch' of Star Wars Expanded Universe with the New Jedi order books, the Falcon has become more of a character then just another ship. Numerous times, the Falcon's quirkyness has made me wonder why Han keeps it around, and yet just a few pages later, it pulls off the impossible. Be it outrunning Imperial TIE fighters, or surviving a head-on run with a squadron Vong Coralskippers. I can't speak for anyone else, but all these incidents made me wonder "What don't we know about the Falcon?" This book, answers most, if not all those questions. Is it filler? Yes. But unlike most Star Wars filler books, it actually does serve a purpose, providing a history not just of the Falcon, but also of Han through referances and flashbacks to previous books. As filler, it can be skipped without missing out anything more then a fun story. That said, it's deffinatetly worth reading if you're a fan that (like me) wants a change from the darker tone that most of the other recent books have had. It is worth mentioning, however, that if you haven't at least read the NJO and Legacy of the Force series', the book won't make any sense.
(minor spoiler warning)
I cannot, however, give this book a five star rating. It jumps back and forth between not only the 'present' and flashbacks, but also 2 major groups, doing different things (though with the same end result in mind), in vastly different parts of the galaxy, with other minor groups, also in other parts of the galaxy, thrown in periodically. In the end, James Luceno pulls all these parts together, but the process gets confusing at times.
Overall, I would recommend this book for dedicated Star Wars fans, that have read virtually all the books (chronologically) from Vector Prime on. Everyone else, I would suggest passing over this. It's also to note that while most of the recent books have had a dark 'feel' to them, this book seems to frequently go out of it's way to stay light and fun. Personally, while I think the darker feel of most of the recent books is a good thing, the lighter feel of this book is a welcome change of pace.
If you are looking for a Star Wars book with a lot of action, than you will probably be disappointed with this one, BUT, if you would like to know the long and sordid past of the most famous SiFi space ship in the world than you will certainly enjoy this book as it relates the story of the Falcon from the assembly line to its tenure with Han and Chewie as the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy". My only issue with the story is that if you like Han Solo stories this may not be for you, as he is only in about 1/3 of this book, as most of it is about what the Falcon was up to before he came into possession of it. He is intermixed but only as a character looking for the history of the ship due to something found on it put there long before he acquired it.
I wanted a copy of this book to read because the backing on my hardback book is coming apart. I did not order the hardback from you. I bought it at a local bookstore years ago. This was as expected. Will order again.
This book feels like exactly what it is - a time waster in between two larger series.
The premise of the book is simple - trace the history of the Millenium Falcon. For risk of giving away too much plot, you end up with two different groups working from owner to owner of the Falcon until they eventually meet.
The majority of the book is just "oh, you used to own the Falcon, great, tell me a story about it, then tell me who had it next". Then they go find that guy and have the same conversation only to move to the next guy, etc.
It just gets dull. The ending seems like the author was bored as well and just wanted to end it.
As short as these Star Wars books are, I think it does take a 3 or more book series to really get into it, so these stand alone ones aren't typically that great in my opinion.
Luceno does a good job as always with his writing - I think he just wasn't given much to work with here.
The translation is well done. Did not notice any typos or formatting issues as is common in a lot of books lately.
