This book is better than the first one. I liked that both Donovan and Alex were reluctant to give into the firestorm and used condoms. Sure your hot and horny for your destined mate, but these people are complete strangers to each other is makes perfect sense that they would be reluctant to the intense commitment of having a child together. I also like that in this book Alex had a career and family. So many UF books have heroine's who have nothing going for themselves and no one to notice when they disappear on a crazed adventure with a hunky stranger. I do get sick of these women dropping everything in their lives to run off with some stranger. However there was still so much unexplained. Again the Slayers wanting to kill all humans is ridiculous. There are not that many dragons. They are all male save the Wyvern. And the only way for them to procreate is with a human woman. Not to mention the fact of who will do all the mundane stuff. Farming, building, making clothes. I could understand if they wanted to wipe out most of humanity, throw them back into the dark ages, and rule like kings. But actual genocide makes no sense to me, and has yet to be explained. Also the creating a child ages the Pyr thing has not been clearly explained. Does the Pyr just get grey hair? Because so far that is all the has been written. Does he age in other ways? Does the human mate age regularly? So far the only mates we have heard of were killed shorty after meeting the Pyr, so would they have lived out a normal human life span or do they get a few extra centuries? Also if the firestorm ends why can mate's still get pregnant? The spark has been put out right, so why doesn't the fertility end? Do the women still get pregnant every time they have unprotected sex or is it like normal human conception? I really wish these questions had been answered because it is their basic biology.

Kiss of Fury Dragonfire Book 2 Deborah Cooke 9780451224767 Books Reviews
Like one of the other reviewers wrote, I must have read a different book. The book read like an average, not very well written, romance novel. The hero and heroine lacked the tension that creates a good romance. I'm not much of a fan when, in the first 10 pages, one or both of the main characters recognize that they are fated. Talk about taking away the tension.
I rated it 2 stars because I save the 1 star ratings for authors who truly offend. The author didn't offend, she simply wasn't very good. As a huge fan of imaginative and well written paranormal mystery and romance, this book doesn't even compare. I was so disappointed that I threw it on my discard stack after the first 100 pages. I don't recommend it.
I decided to buy this book based on the reviews, now I'm wondering if the publisher or author's friends are the ones writing reviews. It was pretty bad. The author did try to come up with a plot--something some other authors in this genre don't bother to do, but it was confusing. The invention was a car that ran on salt water. This is not a spoiler because I can't see a connection to the characters' motives. Some how we have to believe that this invention would save the earth as opposed to its non-invention causing all humans to die which is what the bad dragons want--huh?
The writing is pretty choppy. At no point was I grabbed by the narrative and pulled into the characters' lives. Instead I kept thinking--do I want to quit now or finish it? I did finish it, but I probably should have just quit. Oh, and people who died in the first book and this book seem to come back alive so I guess you never know when a character is really dead.
This book surprised me. I honestly didn't expect the power of the first book in this series to be replicated in Book 2. And, I was right. This one was actually better!
Donovan is fabulous...(I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers, that's for sure!!). His "firestorm" is unwanted, and he feels tricked into the heat he experiences with Alexandra. Donovan has a long-term history of distrusting women, and that interferes with his acceptance/trust of Alexandra.
Alex and Donovan plan to "cheat" their firestorm using condoms. Instead, they find the un-satisfied firestorm only gets hotter! The relationship between these two extremely different characters is witty, and paced beautifully.
The Slayers get a new weapon in their war against the Pyr while Boris, the extremely nasty Slayer, is finally beaten down (but not out!).
This book is enchanting, and makes shape-shifting dragons almost believeable.
I particuliarly liked D. Cook using the Green Machine as the target of the Slayers. In todays' world...anything that brings more awareness of global warming and possible solutions into the mainstream is appreciated.
I can't help hoping that Nikolas the newly-un-enchanted Pyr ends up with Sophie...they are too cute together.
I'm a little sad because I really wanted to love this book. I read book 1 about a year ago and found it just okay. I loved the concept of dragon shifters and the male lead, but something wasn't working for me. So, now after reading all the great reviews for all the other books in the series I decided to give it a second try.
I just finished Donovan's book, Kiss of Fury and unfortunately the magic for me is simply not happening. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the way the firestorm is set up and ends up falling short in the end.
Not all para/romance novels have to have explicit sex and I'm okay with that, but with this series being all about the firestorm I really needed to have a little more 'pow' in the sex scenes. The whole book is leading up to the completion of the firestorm and when it finally happens it's all very blah. The firestorm is suppose to be this amazing chemistry/sexual desire that happends to these pyr males once they meet their true mate. It's a once in a lifetime thing and is not only a means to breed but it's suppose to make them stronger and in the case of Donovan the foretold "warrior". I kept waiting for the fireworks to happen every time Donovan and Alex came together unfortunately that didn't happen.
