I really did not like this book. I found myself so upset with the ending. I was hopeful that these characters, any of them, would redeem themselves but no dice. It was hard to like many of the characters and I am sorry I wasted my time finishing the book. To top it off, it ends in a cliffhanger! I am not a fan.

Omega An Urban Fantasy Novel War of the Alphas Book 1 edition by SM Reine Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

Interesting new series and view point of Genesis. I read this series; this is the second time for me, before I read the Descent and Ascension series and after reading them before reading this series again the viewpoint Deirdre and some of the other shifters have of Riley is pretty awful. I wasn’t really expecting it to be so bad after Genesis when I finished Sins of Eden, but dang…. I don’t think a person would’ve expected it, but I think it shows just how good intentions don’t always end up being good for everyone. Just one of the things I love about Reine books … just how you get to see both sides and get to decide on which you will love or hate. Then once you do she will flip it on you so that you wonder why you thought that way to begin with.
Nothing is really black or white and Reine is a master of adding a billion shades of gray to a story and its characters.
This story was a cliffhanger, so beware. I liked the characters a lot and the backstory for them. Without giving too much away, the motivation of the female lead character was a perfect foil to move the plot along. The pacing of the story was on target and the fight scenes were graphic without being too icky. The sex scene was limited and not overly long or detailed - you wouldn't miss it if you skipped ahead. Overall I liked the story but at times I grew impatient and wanted to know what type of shifter the female character changes into. I guess you will have to read the next book to find out. And that brings me to my rating. I have this 4 stars because the book was just that good. Normally I don't give books with continuations move than 2 stars, but the characters were so authentic in their reactions and the storyline was sound and the villain so well written that it deserves more. However I took one star away because I don't like reading only half a book and then be told I have to pay to read the end. No no, if I like your complete book, THEN I will pay to read more books by that author. Incomplete stories are a cheat.
This was an interesting read. She is a shifter who cant shift but becomes a very important tool in a crazy shifter revolt. The story moves very quickly and is very well writen but I absolutely hated how it ended. I wont spoil anything for anyone but it was the worst type of ending for me shy of a cliff hanger. She falls in love with the shifter who is sent with her to infiltrate the rebels and she cant stand the leader of the rebels but he is very interested in her, when hes not knocking her around that is. I was drawn into this story and it was a good story, just not my cup of tea.
I'm sorry but I just couldn't understand the reason for the main character, Deidre tombs. She knows the super-natrual world and the human world needs to change as the treatment of the populice is dark and hopeless except for 3 Upper level groups. My main trouble with this book and the series so far is she goes into a terrorist group to spy for the shifter leader and ends up being beat physicaly , emotionally and physically and allows it to continue. And lets herself become addicted to a drugs and a murderer. While she had gone to spy was to help bring up the whole populice to a more even footing for all groups she becomes someone who is not anytning better than the terrorists she was to spy on maybe worse because she knew better than to accept this treatment.
I really enjoyed this book right up until the miserable ending. Suddenly instead of the HAE all you have is grief and pain and more to come. Nothing like Patricia Briggs or Ilona Andrews - the good guys do not win, ever. Walk away.
I am so depressed after reading this book. The main character, Deirdre, is strong and defiant by nature and yet she constantly defends Stark, the antagonist, who exhibits classic signs of being a Sociopath. He hits her not once, but twice. Nope, that's not right. On the third occasion he beats her so badly she almost dies from internal injuries. Then we are given such hope for Gage and that maybe D. can be his life line, but that is brutally ripped from us, huh? Such a beautiful, yet desperate, moment together and then it turns into what I guess is supposed to be a self sacrifice so he can save her, but Gage's self loathing makes me loath him too. And everyone else in the book. Classic Stolkholm syndrome here, folks. Not quite sure what the author is trying to convey; that a broken and brutal man like Stark can be changed through a slow burn of love from his conquest? Just not feeling the abuser learning to accept the abuse.
Bleak. This book starts in a bleak world where all the characters are guilt ridden, angry, and/or depressed. No good things happen, several bad things happen, there is a short gratuitous sex scene (not romance, but you're better than a rock so let's have sex, sex scene), and then the books ends in a tragedy. I don't normally write reviews, but I purchased this book because it was suggested as a great read for Ilona Andrews fans. I have to say- nope. Don't get me wrong. It is very well written, the world is well thought out, and the plot flows, but it is a very dark book, without a hint of lightheartedness or some hope it may work out in the end. I'm sure there is an audience for it, but fans of the HEA- this is probably not for you.
I really did not like this book. I found myself so upset with the ending. I was hopeful that these characters, any of them, would redeem themselves but no dice.
