Jewel of Atlantis Atlantis Book 2 Gena Showalter 9780373770960 Books

I really loved this book. It had the perfect pace and I loved the different take on how Atlantis was formed and why it sank. I loved how the hero and the heroine had a previous connection with one another, though I kind of wished that the connection was explained a little more. Like why it was Gray and not some other guy that Jewel connected with. I also loved how readers got to see what happened with Darius and Grace. It was also great that even though both Gray and Jewel thought that they would not be together, Jewel's determination not to let the fact that he was from the surface and she was from Atlantis stop them from being together. I also really enjoyed the how we also got a look at more of the different creatures that live in Atlantis. It was just a truly touching story and an excellent read. Plus, Gena Showalter is one of my favorite authors.

Jewel of Atlantis Atlantis Book 2 Gena Showalter 9780373770960 Books Reviews

I really enjoyed this book because the hero was very likable, nice and funny. The heroine was sweet. The way they meet is original and the story starts right away with lots of action. The first few chapters had me laughing out loud because of the funny dialogues and situation between the 2 heroes. I won't go into the details of the story as I don't want to spoil it for the other readers, but I love how the author has created the magical world of Atlantis.
I agree with a previous reviewer that the only critic I could say about the book is that the end felt rushed and ended a little abruptly, I would have liked to see a lot more details.
I highly recommend all Showalter's Atlantis books (my favorite hero of the series is still the Nymph King)
I love her work. If you love paranormal romance this is a must read!!
Another book that I put off reading because I knew it would be great! And it was!!!
I love Gena Showalter!

This story revolves around a familiar male lead. He's the brother of the lead female from The Stone Prince, Katie James. His name is Grayson James aka Gray. He's been sent to Atlantis to find the Jewel of Dunamis which the humans automatically assumed was an actual gemstone. Gray is found to be stuck in the jungle of Atlantis fighting a demon for his life. All of a sudden he hears the voice of a women who is giving him helpful hints of what to do.

She bargins with him that she'll help him find the Jewel if he saves her and helps her find information about her father. What he doesn't know if that SHE is the Jewel of Dunamis.

They go on an amazing little trek through Atlantis overcoming all sorts of obstacles. All the while building an amazing relationship. Pure Gena Showalter signature novel.

This truely was an amazing book!

10/10!!!!!
This book is a very light weight story. It basically has 2 lines going....fighting and sex. Thats all there is to it. Its kind of boring and I skimmed a lot of it. So I won't be reading any more in this series.
Jewel of Atlantis is a sizable improvement over Heart of the Dragon. For one thing, it was more fun to read. Darius of HotD, with his smothered emotions, is sorely lacking in the sense of humor department, whereas the thoughts of JoA's protagonist, Gray James, are much more entertaining. Also, Jewel felt like a necessary part of a team rather than a tag-along. Jewel and Gray's differing abilities complemented each other well. Neither of them could have accomplished their goals without the other.

JoA also does a better job of explaining details of the various races of beings living in Atlantis, and how Atlantean society works.

The romance between Gray and Jewel was much more believable, and the gradual uncovering of their connection is interesting. Jewel of Atlantis will be worth a re-reading.

The eye-roll factor - only one time was a description so overdone it made my eyes roll.

If you like cold, distant, emotionally-broken heroes then Heart of the Dragon is what you're looking for. If you like something lighter in tone, with characters that will make you chuckle, Jewel of Atlantis provides. The humor sometimes made me think of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series.
Gray James is sent to Atlantis through a portal to find the Jewel of Dunamis. His employer, the Otherworld Bureau of Investigations, discovered a book detailing the many dangers native to Atlantis. Unfortunately for Gray none of them took the book too seriously. After being hunted by vampires and demons, Gray knows that all the information was correct. When he's in a tight situation someone suddenly speaks to him in his mind and helps him make it out alive. Gray isn't sure whether he can trust the woman who speaks to him, but he makes a bargain to save her anyway.

I read this book quickly and found it very readable, but I can't really say that I'll ever want to reread it. I found both of the characters very shallow. Right from the start Gray comes off as a bit of an old fashioned control freak. He always has to be the one to save the day and if it becomes necessary to accept help from someone he beats himself up over it to an irritating degree. Jewel comes off a bit like a fourteen year old. She is insanely naive (even through her experiences seeing the surface) and throws herself at Gray again and again even when he is hot and cold with her.

It was frustrating watching Gray come up with excuse after excuse of why he couldn't be with Jewel. I personally thought the whole living in two different worlds excuse was good enough, but obviously not. For a while there every couple pages he would come up with something new and be totally serious about it. It really added melodrama to the story. I was also really frustrated that Jewel losing an ability with Gray was brought up but it was never really explained why that happened.

Even though I didn't enjoy the characters that much I did enjoy the world. I liked the take on Atlantis and all the explanations of the beings that lived there. There was a lot of action in this book and it was very fast paced.
Jewel and Gray, wow oh wow. Hot love story but super sweet. I've read all of the Gena Showaler Atlantis books but this is my favorite.
I do reenlist the ending was rushed. Otherwise great book quick read.
